If you want to stay up to date with SEO you need to subscribe to the newsletters from some of the gurus out there. One of these guys is Brian Dean from Backlinko.com
Today I received a new email from him about his latest project “Exploding Topics”. In this email he describes how his first launch was a total failure and that he took that lesson and went all -in with Link Building to launch a second time a few weeks later. What he had to say is yet another proof of how important Backlinks are and how much they improve your Google rankings.
The following excerpt is a direct 1:1 copy of the original email, so read for yourself what he has to say:
SEO is starting to kick in
I’m sure glad we did. That second launch did SUPER well (300+ trials). And 1,400+ people have signed up to Exploding Topics Pro so far. SEO is starting to kick in. Organic traffic to the Exploding Topics blog has increased by 10x over the last 5 months.
So, how did I do it? First, we focused on link building. I knew that just “publishing high quality content” wasn’t going to get us anywhere. For our content to rank, we needed links. And lots of them. So my team and I spent the first 3 months of our SEO campaign getting links. We used a combination of different strategies: cold outreach, broken link building, and digital PR. Which got us links from Entrepreneur, The Next Web, Buffer and Shape Magazine. Next, once we had about 200 links, we started publishing content. Like with Backlinko, I went with a quality over quantity approach. Which meant that we could only publish a few posts per month. But each of those posts were SUPER good. And that combo of links + world-class content ultimately 10x’d our organic traffic.
